| EAM Statement of Purpose |
| We are a learning community of college educators and others dedicated
to using our skills and talents to help the world work better. For
us, a learning community is a forum of broad philosophical, social,
and practical thought within which knowledge is generated and people
are inspired, challenged, and validated at the same time. As a learning
community, we are devoted to members' professional development as
well as the advancement of management theory, research, education,
and practice. We accomplish our goals and attain our vision through
conversations and activities held both throughout the year and at
regular domestic and international meetings. |

Showcase Sessions |
| A new, more holistic
paradigm of management is evolving. This paradigm is built on the premise
that to create enlightened organizations, we must engage the whole person:
body, mind, emotion, and spirit. It also takes a living systems approach
to organizational interactions that values unique cultures, the environment,
local communities, and sustainability. The 2002 Conference Theme will provide
an opportunity for scholars and practitioners to explore theories, research
and practice on Enlightened Organizations. |
| Ongoing
Themes |
| Management Education and Development is central to EAM’s mission, and
we encourage submissions that advance excellence in teaching, particularly in experiential
learning. We also invite papers and symposia in the various dimensions of management. In
addition we encourage people to submit proposal for professional development workshops on
topics such as how to get published, how to prepare for tenure, how to keep energized after
tenure, administrative careers, and so on. |
| Presentation Formats |
| We will be experimenting
with a number of innovative presentation formats, including high quality
poster sessions, Open Space Technology, Community discussions, EAM visioning
sessions, and more. The purpose of these formats is to encourage new thinking,
new research, creative exercises, more collaboration, and a deeper, more
intensive look at our field. |
