MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
dt ogilvie, Rutgers Business School - Newark and New Brunswick, and EAM President
If you haven’t yet registered for the 2005 EAM conference in Springfield, I urge you to do so right away. This promises to be one of our most successful conferences to date, with the most submissions we’ve ever had. Thanks for this wonderful accomplishment goes to Shanthi Gopalakrishnan, this year’s VP of Programs. Shanti has picked a topic that has great currency and that is of great interest given events in the world of business today, Managing Ethically in Times of Change.
In addition to the great set of papers, symposia, experiential learning exercises, and case studies, Shanthi has three featured sessions you won’t want to miss.
- The first is the keynote speaker, Mr. Eric M. Pillmore, Senior Vice President - Corporate Governance for Tyco International, who will speak on Friday, at 10am, in the Center Ballroom.
- Second, we have a keynote panel, on Thursday at 5:15pm in the North and Central Ballroom, featuring a wonderful roster of panelists. They are: David Callahan, Co-Founder of DEMOS, a public policy think-tank; Robert E. Frederick, a Professor of philosophy at Bentley College, Chair of the Philosophy Department, and a Research Scholar at Bentley’s Center for Business Ethics; Edwin M. Hartman, Professor and Chair of the Department of Business Environment at Rutgers Business School and Director of the Prudential Business Ethics Center at Rutgers; and Sandra Waddock, a Professor of Management at Boston College's Carroll School of Management and Senior Research Fellow at BC’s Center for Corporate Citizenship.
- Finally, we have Greg Dess, the Andrew R. Cecil Endowed Chair in Management at the University of Texas at Dallas, who will be speaking on Saturday morning at 9 am, in the King Edward room, on entrepreneurial opportunity.
Shanthi and her team have done a wonderful job of putting together an exciting program for your enjoyment, enrichment, and edification.
Registration for this year’s conference is very easy, perhaps the easiest for any conference. It can all be done online and takes only a few minutes. Just go to the EAM webpage, www.eaom.org, click on Springfield, and sign in if you have already registered. If you have not registered, fill out the registration information by clicking the blinking “Sign up now” arrow. When you sign in, you’ll see the link to register; click on that and you’ll be led through a series of steps, including the option to pay with your credit card. Once you’re done, you can print off an invoice immediately. Your charge will be billed to your card within a couple of days under the name of Aquinex, our online strategic partner. It’s quick, easy, and painless, and you’re done.
You next have to call the conference hotel, the Sheraton Springfield Monarch (1-800-426-9004) to make your reservation, by April 20, 2005. Given the number of submissions, I suggest you do this right away, to ensure you get the room size you want at the conference rate.
I also want to inform you that our Finance Committee is moving full steam ahead. Under Bonnie Betters-Reid’s leadership, it is developing a set of policies and procedures to guide EAM in its financial decision making. Other members are looking into various issues for me to improve our effectiveness and efficiency.
You are a great organization and I am eagerly looking forward to seeing you all in May. We are going to have a wonderful time!
